Haflong

 SWITZERLAND OF EAST


 

 

 Also known as the white ant hillock, Haflong is the only hill station of Assam. Interestingly Assam acquired its sobriquet 'Land of Blue Hills' from Haflong. Located in Dima Haso district of Assam, Haflong is full of virgin beauty. Acknowledged as the 'Mini Switzerland of Northeast', this town sits around the beautiful Haflong lake. Here, the clounds hang low and surronds you in a gentle mist.

A short drive to the south of Haflong will lead you to Jatinga- the spot famous for curious phenomenon- bird suicides. On a lighter note, Jatinga is also known for its orchid diversity. Some gorgerous purple flower welcomes visitors to Jatinga.

Thuruk, 38 km from Haflong is a trekker's paradise. This is the only place in the district of Dima Hasao to witness snowfall in winter.

The religious headquarter of Dima Hasao, Maibang, once capital of Dimacha Kingdom is situated 50 km from Haflong. Maibang's famous attraction is the Ramchandi Temple.

One of the least explored waterfalls of Assam, Panimoor, flows at a distance of 120 km from Haflong. Panimoor is best known for the surging waterfall formed by River Kopili.

The sleepy Umrangso Valley falls on the route between Shillong and Haflong. There is a hot water spring in River Kopli, believed to have healing power.

Assam Manas National Park



 

A spectacular Natural Paradise, Manas National Park (MNP) lets you experience nature’s wild side in its purest form. Located in the Himalayan foothills, on the India-Bhutan border, Manas is known for its rare and endemic wildlife such as Golden Langur, Assam Roofed Turtle, Hispid Hare, Pygmy Hog and Water Buffalo. One can also spot rhino, elephant, tiger, Assamese Macaque, Rhesus Macaque, Leopard, Golden Cat, Clouded Leopard, Fishing Cat, Leopard Cat, Jungle Cat, the large Indian Civet, Binturong, Common mongoose, Small Indian mongoose, Himalayan black bear, Sloth bear, Gaur, Sambar, Hog deer, Barking deer, swamp deer, wild pigs, etc. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Manas is one of the first reserves included in the Tiger Reserve Network under Project Tiger in 1973.
